Everything begins in 1974.In that year Ing. Orazio Satta dies and some months later general manager of AR Luraghi, gets fired cause he was in same position with some politicians who wanted to construct an AR factory in their territory (The factory Patrola Serra in Avellino where ARNA was build from Satta and Luraghi).Until then everything was going well in AR wich was the unique state profitable company. Then everything went wrong?.such as political operations, bad managing, ,some past wrong choices, lack of money for desing and new models development and new concepts were cancelled.
1)In the end of 50es Satta and Busso wanted to build a small fwd AR until 1100cc for the European market.Fiat did not like that idea because did not want to be in rivality with AR.After political will the idea was abandoned and it will remain as a concept with Alfa Romeo 103 fitted with a 1300cc engine. This idea comes back with Luraghi in 60es when Italian government institutes favorable laws for companies that want to construct factories in south Italy in order to face the problem with inland immigration (from south to north city metropolis sth tha has economic/social affect). As a result in 1967 begins the construction of the factory Pomigliano d'Arco. The production of Alfasud started in 1971.Fiat disagrees but this time cannot do anything and as a result does it?s own plans for the creation of a factory in south italy (1969).The problem with Concept Alfasud had to do with the taxation status quo in Italy that punished cars with more than 1.600cc.So AR based the sales of Alfasud in the entry level version with the 1.200cc engine (mid 70es)
2)With the choice of 1.200cc engine for Alfasud AR abandones an entire segment (C and D SEG.) a category that AR created in Europe with serie σειρές 1900/giulietta/giulia.Instead of focusing in that segment in order to dominate the market they turned with Alfasud more in Italian market?..and as a result it lefts an open area to it?s rivals (specially to Bmw which introduced serie 1600 in 1964) to monopolize.
3)In the other hand project Alfasud despite be a good product In terms of mechanical parts it has bad sales because the construction in Pomigliano d'Arco is not in acceptably quality (assembly/materials).Members of brigate rosse and the left side parties who were working in the factory sabotaged production lines.
4)V6 engine of Busso was ready to debut in 1974 with Alfetta but due to oil crisis in 1973 it debutes 5 years later (1979) in an already old/failed concept?the Alfa6.
5)In the beginning of 70es AR was ready to fit in Alfetta a six speed gearbox (15 years before the rivals did) abandones the project cause of lack of money and AR presents in 1977 Giulietta tipo 116 as an alternative to Alfetta. That was a choice in order to run out stock engines neither that it believes in the success of the new model that it continues to run with Alfetta in the production lines (1984).
6)January of 1987 the European members activate an agreement for open market in which you cannot tonnage products that come from foreing eu countries and the subsidization through the state budget the domestic products. As a result Bmw and Audi cars were sold in Italy in the lowest price in all European countries members of eu comity.
So AR had to be sold or to be nationalized like Renault. In 1987 Bmw was interested for R&D department and Balocco plants but not for AR production lines (cause it dominated in sports sedan segment )so the negotiations to buy AR dropped down. Then Ford came out and offered 4 billion USD (ford wanted to shut down Pomigliano d'Arco).Until that time Fiat did not seem that wanted to buy AR but it started a campaign against ford for the AR sale in foreing hands. As a result after the reaction of the worker unions AR was sold to Fiat.
Fiat introduces a plan to Italian government and to Finmeccanica and promises:
1)The creation of a company Alfa-Lancia with a production of 600.000 cars per year?.300.000 of them were AR.
2)To invest between (1987-1991) 5 trillion pounds to AR?.75% of the investment was for the factories.
3)AR was sold to fiat for Five doses of one trillion pounds each?.the first dose started in January of 1993.
4)Fiat promised to develop and improve plants of Arese (today they are some small offices/test tracks)
5)Production of 164/Thema in Arese and 33/75/Y10 in Pomigliano

Does anyone has more information (any link) to add in that matter or anything to correct in my article?
Sakiss your answer is correct BUT,
the products of Alfa - Lancia company (before was alfa romeo S.r.l. then Alfa Lancia S.p.a. converted in Alfa Romeo S.p.a.) ,were of baddest quality for years and years like alfa 155, 145/146 and 164 ,and with the introducton of 156 there's better quality and design but the fracture is the same......
;they are in opposite direction of the sane alfa romeo philosophy; they erase all of the innovation and concepts of the real AR of the 70's and 80's ; for example Boxer engine ,twin cam engine with race solutions etc etc.
Maybe only the 164 GTA can be accepted of a genuine alfa romeo solution.....
This is the result you can explain in thounsand of matters but it's the same.....
